Penguins have wings, but they cannot fly. Instead, they use their wings to swim incredibly fast underwater. Penguin moms lay an egg, but the dad penguin looks after it. After the eggs is laid the dad penguin keeps the egg warm and protected his feet for a whole two months without anything to eat until it hatches.

Kangaroos have a pouch on their tummies that they use to raise their babies. Baby kangaroos are called joeys. The pouch is a safe place for them to grow, and they can also drink the mom kangaroo’s milk from there. There are over 50 species of kangaroos, with the smallest of them being the wallaby.

Humpback Whales

Humpback whales have really long pectoral fins, the fins along their sides. An adult humpback whale can be 14 to 17 meters long and can weigh up to 40 tons. Humpback whales often feed in large groups and are known for their singing ability. They use these song-like sounds to communicate with each other or when searching for food and so on.

Camels can carry people and cargo on their backs across long distances under the hot and dry conditions of the desert. The large hump on their back is filled with fat, and is a source of energy that allows camels to survive for several days without water. Camels have the unique ability to close their nostrils to keep out sand, and they have also developed long eyelashes to protect their eyes.

A hamburger is a food that is made up of a meat patty served in a bun, and typically also includes slices of cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Date palms are flowering plants grown in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. Date palms begin to bear fruit in spring, and they are ripe for picking in late summer. Their fruit, dates, can be dried to preserve them, or made into jam and jelly. It is said that dates have been grown since the 6000s BC. They are sweet, soft, and chewy.

Dim sum is a traditional Chinese meal made of steamed meat, vegetables, and seafood wrapped in a pastry wrapper. Shiumai and custard buns are some of the most popular varieties. Dim sum can be enjoyed in Yum Cha style, where friends and family gather around a large table, drinking tea, eating dim sum, and chatting.

Turkish Coffee

Turkish coffee is made using a special technique. Coffee grinds, cold water, and sugar are put into a special coffee pot called a cezve and are slowly heated over a stove. Turkish coffee is also used for fortune telling. After drinking your coffee, place the cup upside on a saucer. The pattern left by the remaining coffee grains on the inside of the cup are said to tell your future.

Merlion

The Merlion is a mysterious creature whose top half is a lion and whose bottom half is a fish, Mer-Lion. This mystical creature is the official mascot of Singapore and is beloved by the people. The Lion’s Head refers to Singapore’s original name, Singapura, meaning “Lion City”. And the body of the fish represents the fact that Singapore was once a fishing village. There are several Merlion statues with the one at Merlion Park being the most popular.

Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore has the faces of four American presidents carved into its granite surface: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln (LtoR). The face of each president is 60 feet tall, the height of a six-story building. Two to three million people visit Mount Rushmore each year to see these gigantic carvings, making it the most popular tourist attraction in South Dakota.

The Sydney Opera House is a concert hall located on Sydney Harbour, New South Wales. Its distinctive roof that looks like a brilliant white sail is a landmark. The concert hall hosts symphony concerts, choir performances, and popular music shows. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.

Tutankhamen

Tutankhamun became king at the age of 9 and died when he was only 19. On dying, his body was mummified, a preservation method used in Ancient Egypt. He is one of the most well-known pharaohs thanks to his tomb and luxurious burial artefacts being discovered almost completely intact over 3,300 years later. There have also been several mysterious accidents linked to him, leading to some people believing that his tomb was cursed.

Sumo Wrestlers

Sumo is the national sport of Japan. In this sport wrestlers engage in full-contact physical combat, pushing and throwing their opponents. Sumo wrestlers live together in what is called a sumo stable, where they train together. After training Sumo wrestlers must also eat a lot and sleep a lot in order to get bigger. The ‘chankonabe’ that sumo wrestlers eat is a very hearty meal of meat and vegetables.

During winter in Antarctica, also known as the South Pole, there is a thick layer of ice on the ground and an average temperature of about -56°F. This is even colder than the 5°F of the average home freezer. There are dozens of permanent Antarctic research camps. Research fields range from Astronomy, Biology, Environmental science, Geology, Oceanography, and many more. The Antarctic environment is so harsh that it is not suitable for humans to live, yet it is still a treasure trove for new discoveries.
